A gloomy January day full of mist and drizzle greeted our brave band of 6 plus Jasper the dog as we assembled outside historic St Mary's Church in Charminster. We perservered in our stroll along the gushing River Cerne through pretty hamlets and after a short shower were blessed with dry weather.
Having reached Blackdown Farm, headquarters of the Dorset Wildlife Trust (with some welcome toilets), we picnicked in their nature reserve before climbing Charminster Down. A stroll along the ridgeway through the swirling mists brought us back to Charminster village.
Our leader Ian then led us into the Wolfeton Estate to the historic gatehouse where we were treated to a sumptuous tea. Our lovely day was completed with smoked salmon sandwiches, bubbles, tea and scones around a roaring log fire.
