A dry but gloomy day greeted our eager band of 11 for our twixmas 7 mile legstretcher. A brisk yomp up Durnford Drove brought us up onto the downs with wide reaching views into central Dorset . Further downland undulations along fields of grazing sheep and through pretty little farms delivered us to the Lulworth Castle Estate.
We followed the estate perimeter with its numerous ruined turrets to the main south gate enjoying a glimpse of Lulworth Castle and its unusual circular chapel. We then strolled on across the hill with distant views to Poole Harbour descending into the picturesque hamlet of Coombe Keynes.
Here in the ancient church now serving as the village hall we had a welcome picnic break before continuing through soggy woodland. A trek through Newburgh Dairy avoiding the slurry puddles brought us back into Winfrith School Lane and our start point.
