Dorset Group 28 Dec 20: Coastal Circuit from Kimmeridge to Tyneham

A cold, crisp winter's day greeted our band of 13 plus Jasper our faithful mascot as we assembled in the old quarry at Kimmeridge. A brisk trot along the undulating coastal ridge soon warmed us with spectacular views in all directions. Having reached the pinnacle of Gad Cliff we descended the steep slippery slope down to Warbarrow Bay with everyone falling over into the mud at one stage or another!

Our refreshment stop at the bottom was rewarded with a piece of xmas cake for each of us kindly donated by Ian M. A stroll up the valley past Tyneham Ghost Village (sadly closed) and a zig zag up the ridge returned us to Gad Cliff where we descended to the coast at Brandy Wine Bay.

Following the coast path we enjoyed watching numerous surfers tackling stormy seas and passing the nodding donkey oil well we arrived at Kimmeridge Bay. The pebbles and shale beach allowed us a brief picnic stop before heading up the valley through picturesque Kimmeridge Village and stiff final climb to reach the old quarry.
