Dorset Group 26 Sep 21: The heart of Hardy country

Having assembled in Bockhampton Wood our band of 11 set off to view Thomas Hardy's birthplace cottage and garden before strolling through the extensive surrounding Puddletown Forest. We then climbed up to the south Dorset Ridgeway to enjoy a long stroll with commanding views in all directions of the rolling Dorset landscape.

Following our picnic in a notorious layby we ambled across cow and bull studded farmland into the Kingston Mauward estate with its beautiful manor house. A pretty walk along the river Frome allowed some trout spotting after which we called in for a welcome cup of tea at Pine Lodge Farm before returning to the woods to complete our 9 mile circuit.
