A chilly crisp morning greeted our band of 22 as we assembled in Cerne Abbas. After a brief walk around the pretty village and abbey grounds we visited the ancient spring at St Augustine's Well to top up on holy water.
A stiff climb up the hill under the famous Giant soon warmed us up as did a brief coffee break in the bluebell wood. As we ambled along the ridge up the valley we enjoyed commanding views across Dorset and Somerset as well as glimpses of Minterne Magna House.
We descended sharply through the hamlet of Minterne Magna to reach the famous himalayan gardens at Minterne Magna House where we were able to explore the gardens and enjoy our picnics.
Our return after lunch led us up the opposite ridge, through woodland laced with bluebells and wild garlic and down to the ancient house and estate at Up Cerne. We emerged at the Giants Viewpoint to feast on the enormous splendour of this 'prehistoric' figure!
