We commenced our post lockdown programme with a short but rewarding walk around Bere Regis country. Social distancing meant our group of 10 walked in 2 cohorts some distance apart.
We initially climbed Black Hill through traditional Dorset heathland to descend into the hamlet of Turners Puddle and its pretty church. Crossing fords we followed the Piddle river through Throop to emerge onto rolling corn fields filled with poppies.
We then ascended Kite Hill to amble through mature woodland where we enjoyed our picnic. Descending through more Dorset heathland we emerged in the enormous tree plantation of local resident and eco-warrior Brian May.
Our short walk on a sunny summers day was completed with a welcome pint at the Royal Oak back at the start.
