Dorset Group 2 Sep 21: Jurassic Coast – Worth Matravers via St Aldhelms Head

On a blustery overcast day our band of 17 (including 3 guests) headed towards ancient St Aldhelms chapel perched on the clifftop, most of us avoiding the 250 step dip on the cliff edge route!

We passed the ruins of the wartime RAF radar station and continued along the spectacular coast path to descend into the caves at Winspit. Having explored the caves recently used as a filmset for Star Wars we enjoyed our picnic amonst the pretty wild flowers perched on the cliffedge.

A brisk climb up the valley brought us to the picturesque purbeck stone village of Worth Matravers where we enjoyed a pint at the famous cider pub. Our return led us down into the tiny hamlet of Hill Bottom before climbing back to the start point.

We concluded a lovely day with a sumptuous tea proved by our leader Laurence at Vue Plaisant House and Gardens
