On a disappointingly gloomy day our merry band of 7 boys and 2 girls assembled on the outskirts of Weymouth for a tour of local nature trails led by Stephen C. We commenced with a stroll through the Lorton nature trail identifying the numerous wildflowers currently in abundance before ascending the ridge for commanding views across Weymouth in all directions.
We were then led through the elusive Teddy Bear woods with a secret entrance and hidden trails before descending into the Lodmoor nature reserve. Here we spotted numerous wild fowl in the wetlands including the rare Marsh Harrier with its impressive wingspan.
The trail led us to the coast where we climbed up to the Lookout Cafe for some welcome refreshment with views across Weymouth Bay to Portland. A short return through the wetlands via some impressive viewpoints brought an end to a very enjoyable stroll.
