Our group of 10 all met at Harmans Cross in rather a sombre mood as this was the first Dorset Group walk since we heard the very sad news of our fellow long term walker and great friend John Gibbs who sadly passed away on Wednesday 16th September 2020. He will be greatly missed by us all.
We headed off to the base of Nine Barrow Down and then walked along the lower path in the autumn sunshine in the direction of Corfe Castle. There were great views of the valley, wildlife, railway and the first of the autumn tints. We then went up to the top of Brenscombe Hill and joined the Purbeck Way to see the fantastic views of Poole Harbour, Poole, Bournemouth and beyond in the very clear sunshine; then descended the hill into Corfe Village for lunch. After lunch we returned along the valley across Corfe Common to Woodyhide Farm and followed the railway back to Harmans Cross.
