Cwm Eigiau disaster trail walk

Although the sunny weather ended the day before the walk, a hardy group assembled for a drizzly trudge round the Cwm Eigiau dam disaster walk following a trail up to the point where a dam wall was broken by the weight of water in a reservoir in Cwm Eigiau. The Cwm and lake in a large bowl, nestled in the eastern Carneddau, under Wales's second highest mountain, Carnedd Llewellyn, is an impressive place. The area is still widely used for reservoirs (but not where the disastrous dam breach occurred) that collect water using leets that run, nearly horizontal, for great distances to collect water to power a generating plant in the Conwy valley, originally used for a now closed aluminium plant.
