On a brisk November morning a group of 16 met just outside Gloucester, for a lovely brisk 9 mile circular walk. With Max the dog, a new face and quite a few from outside of the group, with friends joining us from S.Mids and S.Wales groups.
Jon S, took us through the country from the splendid Victorian church at Highnam through the industrial heritage of the old quayside, our local coordinator Ken, insisting on climbing up onto one of the old cranes for a photo-call.
Stopping for a quick cuppa at what was left of Llanthony Abbey and it's connections to Humpty Dumpty !!
On to the cathedral, where we took a tour of this beautiful building, Henry III was the ONLY English monarch to ever have a coronation away from Westminster Abbey, exactly 800 years ago, in the cathedral, in October 2016. Edward II is buried here, the one with the poker and all that. What a wonderful place. A small shower outside left us in the famous cloisters for lunch, where a few scenes from the Harry Potter movies were filmed.
Heading back we had to stop off at Three Cocks Lane, just for pictures ....and much juvenile giggling.
Getting back to the start as the sun was setting......a lovely 'urbanside' walk
