We had an excellent turnout of nearly 40 walkers - and one of the largest ever for the Berkshire and Mid Thames Group. We were lucky to have a beautiful sunny day which added to our enjoyment. It was also nice to welcome a number of visitors from other groups as well as some prospective members too.
We walked along the Thames towpath passing through Henley town Centre then crossed over Henley Bridge, with great views up and down the Thames. Passing the Leander Rowing club we walked beside the Thames for a couple of miles until we reached Remenham lock and weir where we paused while we took a group photo. En route we were lucky to see the Cambridge “A” boat crew competing against the Leander Club in what was their first step in preparation for the 2022 Oxford/Cambridge boat race.
We then passed the hamlet of Aston and and joined the Chiltern Way which took us along the ridge of the hills behind Aston and eventually back to Henley. Before we all went our separate ways we managed to squeeze in a visit to the grave of Dusty Springfield who is buried in the churchyard of Henley’s Parish Church.
We look forward to seeing you all again on our future walks.
