Christmas Lunch at Laugharne

This was "(S) NO (W)" joke for our Christmas Lunch at Laugharne but we had the last laugh, with most, managing to brave the elements to join in, our Christmas celebrations.

The day started off very stressful with sleet and snow falling around and about, but the day ended with a big sigh from me that we had had another most enjoyable day in Dylan Thomas country.

With 31 of us due to lunch at The Owl and Pussycat in Laugharne, only 4 amazingly couldn't make it due to the poor driving conditions in some areas.

Nearer Laugharne the rain was really heavy and I arrived at Laugharne thinking I would cancel the pre-lunch walk as it was so wet but quite a few people arrived wanting a walk and surprisingly the rain stopped so off we went for a short tour of some of the best bits of this town which is associated with Dylan Thomas, poet and writer.

It was notably just the women yet again who turned up to support this walk. The men were still busy at home putting the last touches to their ensemble!!

We started off passed the Castle and on to Dylan's writing shed where he sat looking out for inspiration at the beautiful sea views. As some of the women hadn;t been to Laugharne before a few of us then went down for a closer view of the Boat House.

Then rejoining the others we continued the walk on a lovely green path through some beautiful trees and on to a large house with a fantastic garden. We then joined a track and a side road and then on another lane making our way to the churchyard where Dylan Thomas's grave is situated.

After paying our respects we then walked down the main street passed the notorious Brown's Hotel, to meet the rest of our group assembled at The Owl and Pussycat ready for lunch.

It was great to see everyone, some of whom we hadn;t seen for a little while.

At 1pm precisely lunch was served with scrummy roast  turkey with all the trimmings and vegetarian alternative, plus roast potatoes and fresh vegetables all going down a  treat. The hardest decision was which of the tasty desserts to choose.

Good food, good conversation and really good friends made this a very lovely day and a great way to celebrate another fantastic year of amazing adventures for the group.

Many thanks to everyone who made an extra big effort to come amd join in this Christmas celebration and to the owners and staff at The Owl and Pussycat for a most enjoyable meal.

We have had another successful year so well done to everyone who has contributed and supported this group so well.

I'm now looking forward to next year and the exciting events we have on offer.
