Christmas At Hampstead, Dec 9 2012

Michael Buckland took 32 of us, in cold, but dry and dilute sunny conditions, on his annual Christmas walk, almost a pilgrimage, from Wood Green, via Alexandra Palace, Highgate, Hampstead Heath and onto Hampstead Village.  Michael started the day with a confession that he thought that he should change the route of his Christmas Walk, but no one has wanted to change it, so back we were and raring to go!  And you can see why! We saw where Television was first televised from, anywhere in the world,  the Great Hall and the Willis organ within the Ally Pally building, and the stunning and very clear views over London from its highest Northern view point.  Then walked on through the suburban streets of smart Highgate, onto and through the Heath, skirting the main lake where we managed to keep members from disappearing or at least getting 'lost' .......in search of some extra Christmas 'cheer'..... and onto hampstead Village, in full pre-Christmas swing. Nearly all stayed for a hearty and jolly lunch, 14 or so at Pizza Express, and 10-12 at the William 1Vth.  With many of each group meeting up again later for further beverages and good chat around the fire at The Flask. By nearly 6pm, when I left with a couple of others, there was still a small band of devoted GOCs, still being more than ably led by our team leader of the day!  Thanks for a great day Michael!  You're booked for Dec 2013!

As always, pictures tell all, and no moreso than in the pubs in the afternoon, where, from somewhere, tinsel and a particular elf, appeared!
