Cheddar Valley Railway Line & Winscombe

A slight sense of foredoom amongst the seven of us at the start of the walk as the forecast was for heavy rain most of the day after heavy rain the day before - an expectation of much mud and more rain. However, not very long after we set out the rain eased and then stopped and the sun came out to what turned into a lovely warm day.

Our walk took us from Winscombe along part of the "Strawberry Line" and through a railway tunnel then up onto the open hills with good views over the countryside and coast with clear views of Weston-Super-Mare and the Welsh coastline further in the distance. In the fine weather we were able to have our lunch stop on the village green seating at Shipham, then onwards for the return walk to Winscombe taking in another part of the Strawberry Line on the way.

Several of us went on to a local hostelry after the walk for some drinks and food.

Thanks to all who came along to make it a good walk and a good day - was nice to see faces old and new again.
