Nine members gathered in the car park of the Parke estate in Bovey Tracey ready for an exploration of the valley of the river Bovey. It was a very mild with virtually no breeze as we set off along an attractive riverside path and passed the remains of a medieval weir.
Leaving the Parke estate behind we joined the cycle path that runs along the route of the former Mortonhampstead branch line for a short while before continuing on peaceful country lanes towards Lustleigh our destination for lunch. Someone spotted an owl on top of a telegraph pole and there was a rush to take photographs before it flew away. Alas it wasn't a real owl at all!
We stopped to eat our sandwiches on proper picnic tables in a community field at the heart of this picture postcard village with lots of thatched cottages. Refreshed we set off again for the return leg on the other side of the river valley including a stretch of woodland track before descending back to the start and some tea and cake in the courtyard of the excellent cafe.
