An enthusiastic group of 29 gathered in the pretty village of Ilmington, for Ray Bowmer’s latest offering for South Midlands. People had come from as far away as Lincoln knowing that Ray always delivers an excellent walk and they weren’t disappointed.
Before the start of the walk we witnessed the ceremonial handing over of the GOC flag from Mark Parker to John Hambleton as the new Group Coordinator. Mark has done a great job over the last 10 years and I’m sure John will rise to the challenge of taking the group forward for the next 10 years!
We started the walk with a wander through the pretty village of Ilmington before heading up our first hill to be rewarded with the first of many fine views across the Cotswold landscape. We paused for a coffee break by a lovely stone barn and for lunch in quaint Ebrington. Refreshed we climbed back up onto the escarpment for more fine views.
Throughout the walk there was much lively conversation and banter between friends old and new to the group. Upon our return to the start Ian thanked Mark for his excellent leadership over the last 10 years and presented him with some small joke gifts and a plain brown envelope full of cash. Some left for home whilst others headed to the pub! Thanks to Andrew and Bill for the additional photos.
A great day out was enjoyed by everyone, thanks Ray for another excellent walk, the time and effort you put into its planning, really paid off.
