Atherstone New Year’s Day Walk

When Chris Thomas arrived in the sleepy market town of Atherstone he was expecting a good turn out from his group.  Imagine his surprise and delight when he entered the market square to be greeted by 20 GOCers from around the country including 3 Group Coordinators and a dog.  Chris was less impressed with the group of protesters in the middle of the square but calmed and enthralled by the many Police Officers present.  It transpired that the local hunt was the target of the protest not GOC members and we were able to exit the square safely before the hunt arrived.  As the pictures show the group was cheerful, the grey sky cleared and we were rewarded with some fine views and some early signs that spring is just around the corner, maybe!  The walk included some lovely woodland, open fields and a huge quarry.  During the walk Chris entertained us with some historical facts dating back many centuries.  We returned to the start point via the Coventry canal towpath for a well-earned rest and some refreshments.
