Two Tors 40th GOC Anniverary Walk

We might not have had a famous celebrity as our neighbours in Cornwall did, but we welcomed 4 new walkers, Aiden, Bruce, Steve and our guest Manel from Barcelona.

With talk of the day's weather 11 walkers set off towards the two highest points in Devon to Celebrate 40 years of GOC. There was a stiff breeze from the North West and extra layers of clothing had to be added to ward off the chill. Mike our walk leader set the pace as we headed towards High Willhays, at 621m the highest point in Devon and our target for the walk. We followed army tracks and slowly climbed to the ridge where we passed Yes Tor (619m the second highest point) and our lunch stop, then onto High Willhays. We stopped to take in the amazing vistas and take photographs. With the air so crystal clear views towards North, Mid and East Devon and Cornwall were breath-taking. At the top the stiff breeze had turned into a strong wind and a few caps had to be rescued! After our short stop we headed back towards Yes Tor and our lunch stop in the lea of the tor. The spot picked by Mike was great, sunny and protected from the wind. Suitably refreshed, our group headed back at a leisurely pace to the car park to collect our cars for the final part of the walk, Devon cream tea at Okehampton Railway Station.
