Shalford to Gomshall November 2015

After the previous few days of bitter of icy winds the weather moderated for our walk on Sunday.  Although it was cold, it was dry and almost calm and 35 hardy walkers enjoyed a splendid linear walk from Shalford to Gomshall.  We had a late start – the train from Gomshall to Shalford was 20 minutes late but there was no ticket collector on the train so we all had a free ride , thanks First Great Western!

Adrian had planned the walk to start with one stiff climb to  St Martha’s Church which gave us plenty of views during the rest of the day  as we descended through rolling green hills. Careful route planning ensured that we encountered very little mud – a welcome feature at this time of year.

At the conclusion of the walk 35 thirsty and hungry walkers tucked into tea and cakes – not a crumb was left over. Our thanks to our cooks and marketeers:-

Mary for her delicious luxury chocolate cake – we need that recipe.

Peter’s bread pudding which almost disappeared before I could capture a picture!

Robert for his iced bakewells,

John for his iced fruit cake slices

Gordon for his upside down fruit cake (all the fruit sank to the bottom).
