GOC Surrey Walk Report 26th July 2015

The weather report for Ripley looked awful with rain most of the day, but despite that 18 walkers turned up in the car park in a heavy downpour.  Two weaker vessels  decided that it was too bad and left. Having sorted out the men/women from the boys/girls the sixteen of us trudged through the heavy rain for about 50 minutes but by the time we stopped for a break at 11:30 the rain had ceased and although we had a few spots of rain and drizzle it was fine for the rest of the day.  Despite Tim’s warning of mud it wasn’t very muddy but it was very wet underfoot. At the end of the walk everyone commented how much they enjoyed the day and were so glad that they made the effort to walk through the initial rain.

Although it was Tim’s first time leading a walk his obvious leadership skills shone through and we could tell that the walk had been well planned.  Lee was the back marker sweeping up any stragglers and providing navigational confirmations from the rear.

The walk ended with tea/coffee and cakes, what else would you expect?

Thanks to our bakers:-

Roger – his own take on Mary Berry’s Lemon Drizzle - light and zesty.

Gordon – The well known Orange Almond cake from  Nathalie Hambro’s blog
