We were a group of 13 for our circular walk round the island of Portland including visitors from Surrey GOC. Ably guided by Stuart who has made Portland his home, we discovered a wealth of sights and information concerning aspects of island life, history and wildlife previously unknown to us.

The weather was bright but breezy as is the Portland way! Besides stunning views over to the mainland we were surprised by goats and wallabies grazing on the cliffs and young offenders working in the governor's garden of the young offenders centre as we passed through.

Our leisurely stroll included a lengthy coffee stop at Church Ope Cove (Portland’s only beach) and an excellent lunch stop at the Lobster Pot Cafe on Portland Bill. A brisk breezy stroll along the West Weares after lunch, through the graveyards of the enigmatic St Georges Church in Weston brought us to the new stone henge at journey’s end.
