Four hardy souls braved the strong wind and rain at RSPB Arne to be rewarded with exclusive use of this beautiful reserve. Following a warm welcome from the RSPB Ranger we were treated to a fungal foray by Derek Monk (our own fungal expert) whilst ambling through the woods to reach Shipstal beach with far reaching views across Poole Harbour and Islands.

A break in the weather yielded a close encounter with two Sika Stags showing off their remarkable antlers. Following some bird spotting in the hide we fell upon a herd of Sika Deer in the Big Wood before retiring for a welcome coffee break at the charming cafe.

We concluded our tour with a trek across Middlebere Heath (home to all six of Britian's Reptiles - who were clearly hibernating!) to the hide at Middlebere Lake for some more bird spotting.
