Dorset Group: 25 Oct 18

Clear blue skies and sunshine greeted our lucky band of 13 plus dog on this late October morning. We set off across the Isle of Purbeck Golf Course dodging low flying balls to reach Godlingston Heath with commanding views across Poole Harbour and the Agglestone (a monolith akin to Ayer's Rock said to have been thrown by the Devil in a failed attempt to strike Corfe Castle).

Our descent across the swamp brought us into Studland Village and down to the sea at the Middle Beach Cafe for some welcome refreshment. Joining the South West Coast path we visited Fort Henry (Churchill's observation bunker for the D-Day practice manoeuvres on Studland Beach) to enjoy it's panoramic views along Studland bay before continuing along the coastal cliffs climbing up to Old Harry Rocks.

Having explored the famous cliffs and taken advantage of the excellent photo opportunities afforded by the sunny weather we followed the coast path up to Ballard Point with views across to Bournemouth to the north and Swanage Bay to the south. Here we turned inland to join the Purbeck Way for a stroll along the Purbeck Ridge along Ballard Down (passing many impressive fungal Fairy Rings) to reach a memorial obelisk marking our final descent to walks start point.
