This was the second year we had held our Christmas lunch in Laugharne and the second year that Laugharne---with a Dylan Thomas influence??!!---tried (but failed) to put a dampener on the day by producing some rather damp and misty conditions.
Robert Davies kindly offered to lead the short optional walk beforehand and seven others assembled in the aforementioned drizzle in the centre of Laugharne.
It did not go unnoticed that it was only women and none of the men who turned up for the walk.I think they must have been afraid of getting their pink sparkly stilletos muddy!!!!
We took a photo of the Castle before it disappeared into the mist and Robert led us on the coastal path and up onto St John's Hill where he assured us that the views were stunning. We had to take his word for that, as by now we could hardly see a hand in front of us.
Indeed we walked through a field and there was some movement ahead of us, I called to the dog owners to put their dogs on leads as there were sheep ahead, but it was actually some hefty cows that emerged out of the gloom.
Robert gave us a bit of history of the area and we wandered back towards the centre of the village and to the Owl and the Pussycat where we had exclusive use of the venue, ready for our lunch.
The rest of the party soon assembled and in total we swelled into a large group of 25, with two people unable to come at the last minute.
I know you will all want to know the breakdown of the group so I will not disappoint---13 women and 12 men!!!!
It was great to see the enthusiastic greetings and for everyone who maybe hadn't seen some others for a while, to catch up.
It was great too that some of our newer members this year, who had only been on one or two events wanted to join in the celebrations.
The food was very tasy and plentiful and the desserts looked and tasted scrummy.
The chatter continued, with also a few speeches and a pressie of some non fattening choccies for me, and then eventually people started to leave to wind their way home.
Many thanks to everyone at the Owl and Pussycat for such attentiveness and great food and service and to everyone who came and made this a very special occasion.
