Chipping Norton Xmas lunch.

17 Dec 2017 | South Midlands Group

It's not often that a South Midlands event starts a bit later than scheduled, so today was definitely a record when we held our annual Christmas celebrations a whole week later than initially intended.

Having awoken last Sunday to a heavy blanket of snow accross the whole region, it was a relief to see clear roads this morning and for a hastily rescheduled walk and Christmas lunch, to finally be able to go ahead.

Although the sunshine didn't manage to join us, we weren't going to be deterred by a little light drizzle, and 12 stoic walkers set off from the heart of Chipping Norton for a short 3.5 mile ramble, to build up an appetite for an eagerly anticipated lunch.

Not surprisingly after the weather we have 'enjoyed' this week, conditions were a little tricky under foot and more than one of us managed to slip up on the compacted ice or muddy bridleway.  Fortunately it was only egos that were bruised and no broken bones.

Safely back in Chippy for lunch, we were joined by 3 more of our regulars and 15 of us sat down to enjoy a traditional roast turkey dinner, or vegetarian alternative.  Judging by the laughter, banter and smiling faces around the table, I am confident in saying that everybody enjoyed the day and we departed already looking forward to meeting old friends again in the new year for our next walk.

A big thank you to all of you who came along today to make sure that the event wasn't completely written off and we weren't defeated by the great british weather!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.  Mark. x
