At the end of May, 80 GOC members descended on the small Scottish town of Comrie on the edge of the Highlands for the 40th anniversary Annual Outdoor Gathering.
Unlike many of our campus based AOGs, people were able to enjoy a variety of accommodation from camping to hotels and many took the chance to extend their stay in the area. Friday's meal was in the local community centre - actually a former church. The buffet proved plentiful and of great quality and the bar enabled people to catch up with others that they may not have seen since last year.
Saturday brought the variety of weather that we expect of Scotland but didn't stop many people heading for a Munro. The evening dinner concluded with an anniversary cake being piped in and followed by a ceilidh.
Sunday's walks made the most of the scenery and, as on Saturday, some opted to cycle instead of walking whilst others took a day off to go to Scone Palace by classic car. The evening was spent at the local wildlife centre with an indoor barbecue because of the weather and a superb concert by the Edinburgh Gay Men’s Chorus - their birthday song to the club is on You Tube at http://youtu.be/VxkCZBLdWm8.
Monday was a bank holiday and for those who didn't have to rush off there was another selection of fine walks.
Thanks to Mike, Robert and Douglas for their organisation of the event and for members of the Scotland and Adventure Out groups for leading events and making us so welcome.
