East Devon ad-VENN-ture! Sunday 7th November 2021

A lovely crisp sunny Sunday saw 16 of us set out from the village of Tipton St John and head off into the Devon countryside.

We first took a gentle climb uphill out of the village and on to Venn Ottery Common where we enjoyed wonderful far reaching views. The common is one of the East Devon pebblebed heaths and is a haven for a wide range of wildlife and fauna.  The pebble beds were deposited by river erosion and at times are akin to walking on a very pebbly sandy beach. Luckily we traversed the area without any injuries!

Moving on through woodland and shaded green lanes we were lucky to find a sheltered sunny spot in a field for our picnic lunch.

We then moved on and downhill to find the banks of the river Otter which we followed back to the village.

A lovely varied walk in beautiful autumnal weather rounded off by tea and cake in the sunshine at a local garden centre.
