A bridge or two, too far. And as for the hills!

On 6th and 7th July members of the Western Midlands and South Midland groups plus a couple of locals “enjoyed” two walks and good food on their annual weekend away in Devon/Somerset.
The weekend began for those traveling alone with an excellent evening meal at the Wheelhouse Restaurant in Minehead. On Saturday the group assembled high on the cliffs at Countisbury and walked DOWNHILL to Lynmouth for a coffee stop and the chance to purchase fresh hot pasties for lunch. A “short” climb up a zig zag path enabled the group to rejoin the coastal path for amazing view of the coastline and wild cliff top dwelling goats. Lunch was taken at the top of another hill with panoramic views of the Valley of the Rocks. Walking downhill back into Lynmouth the walk leader said that his knees where not enjoying the steep descent, to which one walker replied “Good” just shows you can’t please all of the people....
Having enjoyed ice-creams the group wandered up river before taking a slightly steep path back up to Countisbury where tea, cakes and beer refreshed the walkers.
That evening the group enjoyed a hearty meal at a harbour side pub in Minehead.

On Sunday the group assembled in Withypool for a gentle wander along the banks of the River Barle to Tarr Steps for a riverside picnic. One walker was demanding a double knee and hip replacement as a result of the previous days walk, sadly his case was struck out as he was the second walker to skip along the riverside rock path like a gazelle arriving in time to get the last place on the only free bench.
Walking slightly up hill onto the moors gave amazing views on the return to Withypool where tea and cakes in the villages community cafe refreshed everyone.
