The future of OUTdoors – Update

Hi everybody! I’m delighted to tell you that at the board meeting last Saturday, the board unanimously approved my proposal that OUTdoors should be kept going in its present form for as long as it remains financially viable. The future of the magazine now lies in the hands of you, the members. We have been losing subscribers, more than fifty in the last six months. Now that the board has given its commitment to continuing publication, I am hoping that this decline will stop, or at the very least, slow to a trickle. I therefore repeat my earlier appeal: if you believe as I do that the magazine is an asset to the club, when your membership comes up for renewal, please include a subscription to OUTdoors.

There will be some changes. In order to make the editing process quicker and less technically challenging, with effect from the December – January issue, I will produce the magazine using simpler editing software, which should also enable me to reintroduce pictures. I also want to make the magazine better, so if you have ideas about topics or items that you would like to see in OUtdoors, please send an email to [email protected] , or write to me, Peter Blackburn, 7 Lilac Gardens, Croydon, CR0 8NR, and I’ll see what I can do.

May I also emphasise that the search for a new editor will continue. As many of you know, I have many other responsibilities, both within GOC and elsewhere. I am hoping that by making the job less demanding, both in terms of time and technical know-how, that someone will come forward to take on the editor’s role on a permanent basis. The club will provide the editing software, a memory stick and any training required.

Together, let’s make GOC the club we know it can be.
