GOC Cambridgeshire ……. a BIG Thank You …..

<2>Thank You - Colin & Roger

Please join me in thanking Colin Barker and Roger Orpin, who have, as well as former Trustees of the GOC been looking after the Cambridgeshire Group for 16 years, but have handed over the local reins to new blood, I asked Colin to say a few words.

I joined the GOC about 19 years ago when Alan Puttick was Cambridge Group coordinator, During one of our walks I had met Roger, which was about 19 years ago and we are now Civilly Partnered.

After a couple of years Alan retired and asked if I'd like to take over the running of the group, which has continued to flourish. Our walks attract an average of 15-20. We walk on the first Sunday of the month, mostly in Cambridgeshire, but sometimes stray into neighbouring  counties. I think we are a very friendly group of folk and I have always enjoyed the company and I have made some lovely friends. However, after 16 years or so running the group I thought it was time for someone else to take over, so I have handed over to another Colin.

Our new coordinator, Colin Atkinson, also a long-term member has been 'at post' for a few months now and under his coordinatorship this year's programme of walks are well under way.

A sincere thank you; Colin & Roger, your story is what is at the very heart of what we do, and good luck to 'new' Colin for stepping into such walking boots as these.
