Dear GOC Member,
Following the recent change in the government’s guidance, I think that this is an appropriate time for me to update you on GOC’s position. Although the relaxation in the regulations has moved matters forward, the board has agreed unanimously that we are not yet in a position to restart our activities. This is in line with the decision of The Ramblers and many other walking groups, all of whose events remain suspended.
We will, of course, continue to monitor the situation. The board will carefully consider any further changes to the government’s guidance, and you may be assured that we will begin running events again just as soon as it is considered safe for us to do so. Meanwhile, the work to improve the website and implement a new booking system continues. We hope to see the results of that shortly.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding and your patience during this difficult time. In particular, I would like to thank those of you who have renewed your membership since we went into lockdown. Out of those whose membership expired during April and May, the large majority have already renewed, which is most encouraging.
If, however, you are one of those who has been ‘awaiting developments’ before renewing your membership, please may I encourage you to give us your vote of confidence and renew your membership as soon as possible. Don’t forget that renewals are currently half-price, so only £8.50 for annual online membership (normally £17.00) and £18.50 for annual membership and magazine subscription, (normally £37.00). As our printers have reopened, we will publish an issue of the magazine as soon events are being planned again.
Allow me to reiterate what I said before. The club’s financial position is strong. We are well-placed to withstand this situation, and are determined to come back better than ever.
I look forward to meeting you at a GOC event soon!
Peter Blackburn, Chairman
