It seems ages ago that I circulated a message that walks and North Wales GOC events had to be cancelled due to the corona virus pandemic and the urgent need to avoid spreading the virus. I hope everyone is well and has escaped picking up the very nasty virus and that you have coped mentally, physically and financially with the lockdown.
Now that some of the lockdown measures are being relaxed you may wonder what is happening about GOC walks, especially if you have seen that GOC events are restarting in England. These events in England are being restricted to a maximum of 6 attendees and everyone must book to join the event.
However, in Wales we are still restricted to gatherings of no more than two households, so it is not yet possible for us to resume events.
Hopefully, we will be in a position to do so in the next few weeks and as soon as I get information that the rules are changing I will set up some events and open the function that allows members - i.e. all of you - to set up events. These will probably be subject to the same need to book and with restrictions on numbers attending each even, so it makes sense if we then organise lots of small events locally to members rather than less frequent lrger event. So if you are keen to get outside and enjoy other people's company, now is a good time to think about planning an event near you.
I hope you'll agree that it makes sense for us to be cautious, especially given our age demographic, that we continue to take necessary precautions to prevent anyone being infected by the virus by attending a GOC event.
The good news is that I heard this morning that development of a vaccine is progressing apace and may even be available by the end of the year. This should allow us to resume events as normal in a few months time. In the meantime, best wishes to you all and stay healthy.
