Sunday 9th August 2015 Durgan and Falmouth Bay.

10 Aug 2015 | Cornwall Group

It seems par for the course that as soon as the schools break up for the six week holiday the

weather turns turtle. The days leading up to our walk varied greatly; rain, wind, drizzle,

mist and sun. The day before the walk was utterly glorious but then it all changed.

With cars packed with clothes for every eventuality, eleven of us battled against the drizzle

and mist and assembled at Durgan. The forecast was for an improvement, even threatening

sunny spells later - that remained to be seen.

What followed was one of Simon and Steve's favourite walks. We began by going through

Glendurgan Gardens and that lead us to the coastal path alongside the Helford River. We

stopped for a packed lunch on a rocky beach before setting off again; this time beside

Falmouth Bay, through Maen Porth and eventually to The Red Lion at Mawnan Smith - a

most welcome sight! It was easy to see why this was such an enjoyable walk with a variety

of terrains - field, beach, woodland and lanes, traipsing up steep slopes then abrupt

descents ... and the weather? It did improve: we arrived back dry but we are still searching

for glimpses of the sun.
