Penmark and Rhoose

25 Apr 2016 | South Wales Group

A group of 10 and John's dog Max met on a lovely sunny morning (at last!) at the beautiful Porthkerry Park in Barry, and set out on a 9 mile circuit of Cardiff Airport, taking in the norman village of Penmark with its early Medieval church, and the town of Rhoose on the way, before dropping onto the Jurassic coast and walking along the cliffs back to the park, via Rhoose Point, the most southerly point on mainland Wales.  We were surprised by a convoy of vintage tractors as we reached Penmark and Ben and Mark were quite emotional to see the village had been named after them (see photograph).  We had great views of aircraft taking off from the airport as we stopped near the runway for lunch.  It was little breezy coming in along the cliffs, but the views were excellent across the Channel and beyond.  We were all ready for tea and cake at the finish, and it was a great day.
