With a dusting of snow on the hills and a frost, twelve of us met up at the pleasant Borders town of Peebles for our November walk. Our route in part followed the John Buchan Way – a 13 mile walk connecting Peebles to the John Buchan centre in Broughton. The route takes in Cademuir hill which rises behind Peebles which has many cairns and archaeological features of ancient hill forts along its length. We had lunch on some picnic benches beside Manor Water – a tributary of the River Tweed before walking past Barn Tower and along the River Tweed, using in part a disused railway line. Finally back into Peebles through the parks that line either side of the Tweed. A bit of tea and cake in a café was enjoyed before driving back to Edinburgh. A good route arranged by John.
