July 2012… Floods of incessant rain, floods of events… then summer appeared!!

What a month July 2012 was for GOC London!  The country was in 'drought' as we entered the month, though the heavens had failed to stop from the day following the hose pipe ban, back in early April, right up to the 20th of July, with cool, grey, miserable days, not at all summer walking weather.  Four events had been planned, two around Pride, The London Gay Men's Chorus at Southwark Cathedral and the World Pride march, sorry, diluted to 'Procession', then a tough-ish walk over the Seven Sisters National Park and finally a tour of the Surrey Docks area. The first couple of events were blighted somewhat by the wet stuff (and more the fear of the stuff putting people off!!).  However, and with the Olympics looming, and the world watching and fearing a total washout, miraculously and suddenly summer hit with force right on our final walk day!  The Surrey Docks hosted a feast for the hungry GOCs, all pale, sodden and downtrodden, but who finished the day, inspired, their souls singing, their minds awash with amazing facts, and for some, even a little sunburnt!
