As the UK prepared for Arctic blasts today and next week nothing stopped twenty four members from their walk today.  After a nervous time with trains from London cancelled and frantic dashes by taxi we set off to a slightly delayed start.

The weather was amazing with bright sunshine all day with some invigorating gusts of chill wind.  Luckily the overnight low temperatures had frozen most of the muddy patches and the resulting hard uneven surfaces were easier to walk on than sinking up to your boot tops in mud. We marvelled at the Lovelace bridges and quirky estate buildings of flint, red bricks and glowing terracotta tiles.

By the end of the walk we were all ready for tea and scrummy cakes!  Thanks to our many bakers and marketeers:-

  • Alice: a triple decker cake with vanilla, chocolate and toffee, every slice a delight
  • Gordon: orange and almond cake
  • James: mincemeat cake with almond topping
  • Richard: lemon drizzle
  • Robert: iced lemon tarts

We have to thank Peter G. for ferreting out this interesting walk today which was all new ground for the Surrey group.  Peter was unable to lead the walk today. He has recently been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME) and has had to curtail some of his more energetic activities, so we wish him the best for the future.  He is continuing to add his burnished baritone notes to the Brighton Gay Mens’ Chorus.  So if you wish to catch up with Peter their next concert is on 4 & 5 May 2018 - details will be available later on their website.

Regards

Gordon.
