On May the 29th, 25 of us including friends from London and 2 new members gathered at Hamstreet station for an exciting and almost summery walk.
The outward section being mainly along the Saxon Shore Way included several and occasionally challenging sections of woodland! We passed Bilsington Priory and from them on enjoyed views over the Romney Marsh.
Lunch was taken at Bilsington either at the White Horse or by the Cosway Monument where a village cricket match began.
After lunch we visited the ancient church and headed back to Hamstreet alongside the Royal Military Canal with delightful yellow iris, water lilies, and heard the duck like croaks of the Romney Marsh frogs.
The warm weather encouraged the appearing of several pairs of legs, so it was a shame that part of the canal section was overgrown including quite a lot of stinging nettles… Tough going for the brave! But thanks of Gary who lead such an enjoyable first walk we managed to make it home, safe and sound.
