Dartington to Staverton Station

Report to follow....pictures

A party of 20 with 2 dogs gathered at the craft centre at Dartington for a gentle walk in warm milky sunshine. Off we went into the woods, then through meadows beside the broad and still river Dart with glimpses of steam trains on the opposite bank of the river. We enjoyed our packed lunches on the platform of Staverton Bridge station where not one but two steam trains halted during our stay. Refreshed, we set off beside the railway line before pausing  to explore Staverton church then looping back to the station pausing only to help ourselves from a basket of wonderfully sweet windfall apples left by the roadside. Once more we crossed the river to return via shady woodland paths to Huxham's Cross, then a tarmac trail to Dartington.

Of course no Devon walk would be complete without tea and cake afterwards and this was no exception. We piled into the cafe where the staff coped extremely well with the sudden influx of customers and provided a fine selection of cakes to refuel the hungry  hoards.
