Clevedon and Walton-in-Gordano – 24th June 2018.

As forecast, we had 24+degrees and glorious full sun for the Clevedon walk, so were thankful for what sea breeze there was. 14 of us set off from Grade I listed Clevedon pier and did a figure of 8 through the Gordano Valley, including a drop down to Layde Bay and stretches of coastal path. The shade of the wooded inland sections was welcome and it turned out that the nettles and brambles that had been encroaching the week before during the test walk had conveniently been cut right back. We scuttled across the golf course fairways a couple of times and a few of us paused in one damp meadow to admire an expanse of spotted orchids. It was the same day as Weston Air Show and we saw bi-planes and a few other historic aircraft at intervals, culminating at Dial Hill trig point in a Red Arrows display in the distance. After the 7/8 miles we were ready for refreshment and treated ourselves at the excellent cafes along ‘The Beach’ in Clevedon - well deserved. (Thanks to John for manning the rear.)
