Betws y Coed and Capel Garmon 3rd June 2018

5 Jun 2018 | North Wales Group

A small group braved the warm and humid weather to enjoy a classic walk starting at the touristy town of Betws y Coed and heading, via old footpaths through woods and farmland, for the ancient burial chamber of Betws Garmon where we had lunch sitting on the chambered tomb. After lunch we followed more open paths with wide-ranging views of the Conwy valley and the mountains of Snowdonia until we reached the valley floor. There we found a new footpath removed the need to walk for a couple of hundred metres along the awfully heavily trafficked A5 taking us down through more woodland and then quiet country lanes alongside the Afon Conwy back to Betws & a welcome helping of cake & coffee at the Waterloo Hotel. Although a comparatively short walk, everyone was exhausted by the heat and humidity, but left feeling enlivened by the sights and sounds of the walk.
