Again we returned to the island of Mallorca for the Autumn walking and cycling week. Even being late October summer weather lingers longer there, nicely warm and sunny. While the walkers and cyclists are back on the island there are still plenty of beach holidaymakers, keeping the resorts busy and everything is open. It is certainly an added bonus that we relax after a ride or a walk with lazing on the beach or a swim in the sea.

We were staying at the Hotel Helios in Can Pastilla. The hotel makes itself welcome to both walkers and cyclists, including secure bike stores. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool and sun deck. Both breakfast and evening dinner are generous meals with both great choice and quantity to fuel us up for the daytime activities.

This year we were a group of 36 and we were able to make a make one walking group and two cycling groups. The convenience of this location was that on the Saturday people were flying in from all directions. So on the Sunday we were ready for the first walk or ride. The cyclists went out as a single group so as to get to know the mix of interests and on our route we met up with the walkers as we all took in the delights of the Puig de Randa and enjoyed the wonderful views at the top, across the island from the monastery of Cura at 550m.

The walkers had a mix of longer and shorter walks, which included going to the high valley of Orient and descending to Santa Maria and another day walk through the mountains from Espories to Banyalbufar on the north coast.

The cyclists as two groups did the mountains for those who like mountains or more of the open countryside who like quite country lanes rather than climbs. The western end of the island offered not only the five hill north coast route but also the three hills in the valley of Calvia or the one climb and along the quite coast. During the week we did the coll de Soller to visit Deia and Valldemossa, and the famous Coll de Horno. Away from the mountains we rode to Santanyi to the east of the island but some added a visit up to the Castell de Santueri. We ran out of days before we ran out of different routes to cycle.

Already open for booking are two trips during 2018, May in Italy and a return to Mallorca in October
