AOG 2017 April Update

Hi everybody! I am pleased to report that at the time of writing, 146 members have booked to attend this year’s AOG, almost all of whom will be staying on campus. Thank you all for your wonderful support. I can also announce that although all the double, twin and standard single rooms have now been sold, we have been able to secure some additional discount single rooms, and so there is still the opportunity to book if you have not already done so.

And now to an apology. Members with discount single rooms for the AOG trying to book additional nights have found it impossible to book to stay in the same room. This is because the university does not usually sell discount single rooms to individual guests. The problem has now been resolved. Please enter code GOC17 in the promo box on the following web page: https://www.conferences.lancs.ac.uk/bedandbreakfast/

Remember that if you are booking additional nights on either side of the AOG, this will require two separate bookings, as it did in Penryn last year.

And one further request: if you have booked additional nights, please send details of the nights you’ve booked by email to secretary@goc.org.uk, so that when we do the room allocations we can ensure as far as possible that you are able to stay in the same room. I am sorry to have to ask you to do this, but as the Conferences Office and the Guest Accommodation Office at the university are totally separate operations, there is no simple way to transfer the information from the one to the other. If you are not on email, please send the details to my home address: 7 Lilac Gardens, Croydon CR0 8NR.

Looking a little further ahead, bookings for the individual outdoor activities at the AOG will open on 1st June, and it will be time for you to start thinking about which of the wonderful range of walks and other activities you wish to go on. Please note that if you wish to take part in the climbing or caving or to go on the Sunday coach trip, you must book these activities in advance. You are also advised to book in advance for the cycle rides and walks, as places on these are also limited and only a few places will be reserved for late bookings/those without access to the internet.

I look forward to seeing you in Lancaster!

Peter
