Abergavenny weekend

19 Sep 2016 | Wiltshire, Gloucestershire & North Somerset Group

A great turnout of 28 humans and 5 dogs over two days, enjoyed a weekend in the Welsh borders over the weekend on September 9th to the 11th

Jon S had the job of organising things for the weekend ....... forgetting to book a little more sunshine !! A wet first day started at the magnificent ruins of Llanthony Priory in the wonderful Vale of Ewyas nestled to the west of the Brecon Beacons national park. The circular walk took us along this beautiful valley up one side across to the village of Cymyoy, noted as having the most 'crooked' church in Britain, after centuries of land shifts and slides. The rain continued to drizzle as we took the tough accent up to top of Offas Dyke, after a while the cloud lifted, the rain stopped and we enjoyed a stunning view of the priory ruins in the valley beneath.  After returning to the start we were treated to a fine selection of drinks and nibbles courtesy of Jon and his husband to be !!
In the evening 22 met for dinner at the Hen and Chickens Inn, in Abergavenny, the pub looked after us well and a few more drinks were to be had after the final pudding bowls had been cleaned
Day two started with bright sunshine and stayed with us for the day as we were lead by Alan and Ben, down the valley and then back up to the summit of the wonderful Sugar Loaf mountain, with spectacular views across the national park. Returning to the start we all said our good byes and after getting home I am sure rested some weary limbs
Thanks to Jon S and John H, from the Wilts, Glos Group, with Alan and Ben from the S.Wales group and Al Evans from the W.Wales group for taking care of this lovely little Welsh weekend.

Thanks to Jon for this weekend report & pics.
