Late in 2022, our company secretary Ivor Rose became unwell. At the time, Alex had been ‘trustee without portfolio’ for a few months, and had assisted me by proofreading the ‘insides’ of the magazine, a task that he performed to a very high standard.

Although I had already stepped down as Chairman, knowing how important the secretary’s role is, I asked Alex if he would be willing to take it on.

I informed him that Ivor was keen to remain involved and would give him as much help and advice as he could. Although the role of secretary was very different from what he was used to, Alex agreed to accept the challenge.

Unfortunately, Ivor’s health deteriorated much faster than anyone had expected, with the result that Alex received very little help from anybody. However, the way that he methodically learned every aspect of the secretary’s role has been quite outstanding, and has made a major contribution to the smooth running of the club.

Alex has now stepped down from the position of secretary to deal with important family commitments, although as editor, I am very grateful that he has agreed to continue proofreading the magazine. We wish him all the best for the future.
