West Kent - Groombridge, Harrison's Rocks, Buckhurst Park, and the Medway valley - 7th Oct 2018

What a beautiful autumnal day for this month's West Kent walk on Sunday 7th October where 12 of us met at Groombridge station just over the county border in East Sussex. In the end, this was a 10 mile circular walk crossing the Spa Valley railway line and took in Harrison's Rocks, the hamlet of Mott's Mill, Buckhurst Park, near Withyham, and part of the upper Medway valley. Great views all around, just as the trees are starting to change colour. We are so lucky to have such stunning countryside all around us to walk through and enjoy....

West Kent - Alfriston & South Downs, 2nd Sept 2018

This month's walk was in glorious sunshine from the charming town of Alfriston in Sussex. We started the climb from the town on the South Downs Way and were soon rewarded with views towards the sea over rolling hills in one direction and over the Weald in the other. Soon we passed the Rathfinny vineyards in a hollow below us. We were now heading towards the sea and above us were a number of paragliders. On a grassy bank over the meanders of the Cuckmere, we stopped for lunch, continuing to watch the paragliders throwing themselves off the side of a nearby hillside....

Kemsing, Knatt's Valley and Heaverham 6th August, 2018

This month's West Kent walk was a short 9 mile mile walk from Kemsing village, near Seal, Kent. Initially taking us the steep slope of the North Downs with superb views below. Once at the top, our ramble continued along quiet, and much welcome shaded lanes, before crossing the Woodland's golf course. Shortly after, we stopped for lunch in the shade of a large tree. After descending from the downs, we passed the 17th century mansion of St Clere before continuing on to the hamlet of Heaverham, and then across farmland back to Kemsing for a quick drink in The Bull....

South East GOC Tanners Hatch Hostel weekend 20th to 22nd May 2016

What a great weekend deep in the woods of Surrey near to the big house of Polesden Lacey (national Trust), near the town of Dorking.

15 of us squeezed in to this Youth Hostel - formaly a gamekeepers cottage, with out side toilets, and countles slugs and spiders.

With no pubs and shops nearby we had to make our own fun, so a Gay Quiz on Friday evening, and simple good old fassioned socialising saturday night.

Chris and Peter were the organising team - Chris leading Saturday walk and the quiz, with Peter working 'manfuly' as camp cook the whole weekend....
