Cheddar Valley Railway Line & Winscombe

23 Sep 2018 | Somerset Group

A slight sense of foredoom amongst the seven of us at the start of the walk as the forecast was for heavy rain most of the day after heavy rain the day before - an expectation of much mud and more rain. However, not very long after we set out the rain eased and then stopped and the sun came out to what turned into a lovely warm day.

20 Aug 2018 | Somerset Group

A cheery group of people and lovely Scrabble the dog set off from Thorncombe on the five mile walk with a halfway point of a visit to Forde Abbey. The forecasted light rain was not in evidence and the weather was good for us all day.

Back to reality the walk followed a track to the junction of the two rivers in a wooded glen for a short break before heading upwards to moorland and another descent to our stop by the river for food and refreshments....

Cadbury Castle, South Cadbury & Corton Denham - 22nd July 2018

22 Jul 2018 | Somerset Group

After a fairly gradual climb to Cadbury Castle and then getting used to the views there was a brief rundown of it's history, to discover that one of our group had been involved in an excavation of the site and was able to give us all an insight to what had happened there. Then down the path to do the remainder of the walk....
