Eight walkers from Dorset, Hampshire and Sussex set off from the Dibden Inclosure for this ten mile round trip to the historic village of Buckler's Hard across the forest, through Beaulieu, and along the River Beaulieu, braving mud, donkeys and ponies along the way.

Despite the overcast skies a good time was had by all as we took in the delights of the village of Beaulieu, home of the late Lord Montague, with its quaint cottages, and tidal lake and river. After stopping for a coffee overlooking the river we walked onwards along the riverside path to the village of Buckler's Hard, where ships were built for Nelson's navy and boats set off for the D-Day landing.

After lunch at Buckler's Hard and a mooch around the village we walked back to Beaulieu to enjoy a welcome cup of tea and generous slices of Victoria Sandwich and chocolate cake before returning to the start point.
