East Kent Camping Weekend

The camping weekend this year was at Palace Farm, Doddington.

GOC Members came from all over the South East for this camping weekend in East Kent.

We were well fed and watered at the excellent Local Pub - The Chequers and the Tradewinds café.

Using these local hostelries we soon gained a knowledge of the local Village Gossip.

Including that Bills Van was parked in a local layby as unfortunately the campsite did not allow camper vans.

Saturdays and Sundays walks were 10 mile circulars with plenty of stops after a café breakfast....

The Isle of Oxney

Despite a cold grey day with the threat of rain 14 members met at Wittersham church. The first half of the walk had some lovely apple blossom and woodland with steep little valleys and bluebells. Lunch was in the welcome shelter of Stone Church with its remains of a Roman altar. From the high ground we descended the former cliffs to flat marshland and an old shepherd’s hut complete with fireplace and straw bales which sent some people’s imaginations into overdrive ! We then followed the Royal Military Canal for a mile and the river Rother before a final steep uphill section to reach Wittersham church again....

The Parish upon the Hills

On Sunday the 29th of October 11 members met at Hastingleigh village pond for an 8-9 mile circular walk through some of the most remote areas of the North Downs.

We were led by Robert who had based the walk around the 3 parish churches of Hastingleigh, Elmsted and Waltham known as The Parish upon the Hills and just getting there it was already a bit of an adventure down very narrow lanes!

The weather was dry and became increasingly sunny with beautiful downland views through long valleys with the autumn colours approaching their best....

Gabba Gabba Disco

Perhaps less attended than usual but still as good as ever... Lots of dancing, loud music and weird sexy people... Hahaha.
